DYFFRY CLWYD MISSION AREA
An Overview - WHAT AND WHY?
Exciting changes are underway in the Church in Wales as it approaches its centenary in 2020.
Q Just what is happening?
A Throughout Wales, a fresh look is being taken at the Church’s structure and ministry to see how it can best serve Wales in the 21st Century and make the most of its rich resources. Some of the changes are radical as the boundaries of long-established traditions are pushed, while others are developments of ministry already taking place. All, however, are changes the Church has identified and they are being made to re-energise and re-invigorate its life and ministry. Q So what is a Mission Area? A A Mission Area is defined as a group of mutually supportive churches working together for a common purpose and its vision is to be the prayerful heart of the community, sharing the Christian message in a way that engages, inspires and transforms. Q What does this mean in practice locally? A The thirteen former PCCs of the Dyffryn Clwyd Mission Area are |
merging their legal responsibilities, but not their powers, into the single unit known as the the Mission Area Conference.
Q How is the Mission Area Conference made up?
A Three categories of people – ex-officio, elected and co-opted. For details, follow this link. And follow this one for more details of how all this will happen in Dyffryn Clwyd in 2017.
Q Does all this mean that PCCs are no longer needed?
A Not at all. The former PCCs - now renamed as Church Committees - will continue to be responsible for activities in their local areas. At the same time, the churchwardens of each former PCC, now renamed as sub-wardens of the Mission Area, will be responsible for promoting all relevant events taking place throughout the Mission Area and to motivate the local congregation to support those activities, even when these may not affect their own community.
